Who is WHLL affiliated with?
We are chartered by the International Little League Organization of Williamsport, Pennsylvania—the oldest, largest and most popular youth sports program in the world.
What is your League Mission?
It is the mission of West Hartford Little League to provide an opportunity for all West Hartford boys and girls ages 4 through 12 to participate meaningfully in the sport of baseball, to learn the rules and strategies of the game, to learn sportsmanship and respect for their fellow players and coaches and to have fun!
West Hartford Little League recognizes that the best interests of the children should be of primary importance and the League should be structured and operated in such a manner so that it is fair to all children and coaches involved.
West Hartford Little League is a trade name of Fairness in Youth Sports, Inc., a Connecticut not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation.
When does registration open?
Registration typically opens on December 1st for our Spring season.
When does the season start?
Teams are formed in early April and families are notified shortly thereafter. Practices begin in mid-April or when field conditions are conducive to playing baseball. Opening Day for the Spring season typically takes place on the last Sunday of April at our beautiful WHLL Baseball Complex (corner of Trout Brook Dr and Asylum Ave).
When does the season end?
The Spring season typically ends when the West Hartford Public School year ends.
What equipment does my child need?
This may vary by division but typically a glove, cleats, gray pants, belt and water bottle are necessary. Players may also want to bring their own bat and helmet but we have some on-hand, if needed. The league will provide uniforms, hats and catcher's gear (depending on division).
Where are games played?
Games are played in different locations around West Hartford depending on the division.
How are the teams chosen?
When we choose the Rookie division and Instructional division teams, we try to honor as many player requests as possible. We also try to group children together from the same schools, if at all possible. In the Minors, AAA and Majors divisions, the players are assigned to the teams in such a manner so as to equalize the level of talent. A player evaluation is held in mid-March each year for players, ages 8–12. At the evaluation, players are assigned a bib number and their evaluation is made anonymously. The player agent–who is not permitted to be a coach in the league–then distributes the players by bib number on the various teams. Friend requests are NOT honored in the Minors, AAA and Major League divisions. Requests to play for certain coaches are also not honored in any division.
Are there post-season opportunities?
WHLL has numerous post-season playing opportunities for your children. During the second half of the Spring season, tryouts are held for the Little League World Series Tournament (District) teams and our summer travel teams. Typically, our league fields teams in the 8-9-10 year-old, 9-10-11 year-old and 10-11-12 year-old divisions. Those teams play in the District 7 Little League Tournament (accessible ONLY via West Hartford Little League) which begins shortly after the WHLL Championship Day. Our league also fields numerous summer travel teams that participate in various tournaments around the state. For more information on post-season opportunities, please contact us at [email protected]. If you believe that your child wants to participate in the post-season and that it is likely he or she will be selected to play, please understand that this is a serious time commitment. You will not be able to schedule vacations through the end of July. Please look for information pertaining to the Summer District and Travel season around the beginning of May.
