Fair Ball!
West Hartford played Ellington close this evening in a 10-9 finish with Ellington taking the lead in their last at bat. The game finished in 5 innings. West Hartford could not retake the lead in the top of the 5th. WH had the lead from the get go led by pitchers Luke Gfeller and Chris Maglio who pitched 2 innings a piece. Both had strong outtings but it was the bottom of the 4th that Ellington bats came alive and they also capitalized on a couple of WH errors. In the first inning, on an overthrow to first baseman, Bobby Gerity, Bobby then tracked the ball down and threw the runner out at 3rd base as he was trying to round 2nd for one more. Anthony Carabello was on 3rd to make the play. WH's best inning was in the 2nd. Kyle Bridgman, playing his last game of the summer, tripled to bring in two runs. Chris Maglio also singled to aid in the 2nd inning rally. Then on defense in the bottom of the 2nd, WH was hot. The biggest play was from Emmett Coco who with two outs, rifled a shot from deep in the hole in short stop to first baseman, Ean Tyler. Although 2nd was his easiest shot, Emmett made a major league play and with dead accuracy nailed the runner at first on an Ean Tyler fully stretched catch. In the 3rd inning, Emmett threw a runner out on a pass ball while catching and Chris Maglio had a PO to 1st base.
This was an enjoyable summer coaching these young kids and the coaches saw a lot of really good baseball. West Hartford Little League has a lot to look forward to as these kids enter into the AAA and Major league seasons ahead.
Have a great summer to everyone.
