U10 TRAVEL: WH U10 WHITE 18, WETHERSFIELD (BLUE) 9

Thursday, July 21 - The West Hartford White team came to play tonight.  The infield was solid, the bats were working, and the pitchers and catchers were all key to tonight’s win over Wethersfield.  WH threw some new pitchers tonight and we saw some great pitching.  Chris Maglio had his first start and gave up only 2 runs on one hit.  Anthony (Nino) Carabello came in to relieve striking out 3 batters in the 3rd inning giving up only one hit.  Bobby Gerity took control again in the 4th striking out 3 batters on no hits.  Spencer Martindale came in to pitch in the 4th giving up just one hit and was relieved by Luke Gfeller who wrapped up the victory.  In all, WH threw five pitchers and all contributed to the victory in style.  In the field, WH was flawless and it was baseball at its best and a crowd pleaser.  In the second inning with bases loaded, Chris Maglio fielded two short hits and threw to Vincent Nemergut who made the force out at home on very close plays.  Later in the game, Vincent threw a gun to Brian Brewer at 2nd base to tag the runner stealing from 1st base.   Emmett Coco also had a put out at home to Jaime Nadeau for the out on a bases loaded hit.    In the bottom of the 6th inning, Emmett made a key play at 1st for an unassisted put out, and to end the game a base hit to Brian Brewer at shortstop was quickly extinguished with a gun to Emmett at 1st base.  At the bat Emmett scored 4 runs followed by Chris and Spencer with 3 a piece.  Spencer snuck in a stolen base to home in the top of the 6th with smart heads up base running.  Nino had the big bat again with 3 hits; one being an in the park home run after being challenged by his coach to hit the fence.  It touched the fence on its last rotation on the ground and Nino had a full head of steam heading to third before the fielder got a grasp on it and touched down at home to finish off the homer.  At the bat also for WH, Chris had two hits and Vincent, Jamey Nadeau, Kyle Bridgman and Spencer had one hit apiece.  The coaches could not ask for any more of this young team.  They played in style, made every play that came their way and were a tough team on the bases.
