U10 Travel: WH Dirty Dogs: 8 WH Travel White: 7

In a great summer season opener (6/27/10), The WH Dirty Dogs and WH Travel White showed why they belong in travel baseball in what was a superb back-and-forth nail-biter by both teams. But it was an all around performance from The Dirty Dogs against our other high-powered WHLL travel team that won it in the end. The Dirty Dogs came away with the win in a tight one, 8-7.

The Dirty Dogs were led at the plate by Miles Reynolds (1-1, 2R, 2BB) who blasted a triple to left, beating out a perfect throw from the cutoff. Marcos Massa at lead-off did his job solidly going 2-3 (2-3, 2R) with a double to start off the game. Ryan Druckenmiller also hit 'em hard with a 2-3 day including an RBI and an opposite field double. Other big hits from the lineup came from Paul Van Doren (1-2, 1R, RBI), Matt Keller (1-2, bunt) and Luke Gfeller (1-2)

On the mound, Danny Dashefsky pitched a strong first inning before going out with a sore arm. In relief, Marcos Massa (3IP, 6K, 2R, 1BB) handcuffed Travel White in solid middle relief fashion. Paul Van Doren (1IP, 2K 2R) came in and held off a late inning attack with Miles Reynolds (1IP, 2K, 0R) closing it out for the win.

But it was how the game ended that made the afternoon as special as it was. After numerous defensive gems by Travel White all game long it was The Dirty Dogs turn; with 2 out in the bottom of the 6th, Dan Hussey drilled a ball to left center...hustling in hard was Spencer Altman who made a diving grab to end the game!!! Classic!

Travel White was led at the plate by Jake Conran (3-3, 1R), Mateo Ramirez (1-2, 2R), Mac Reynolds (1-2, 1BB) and Cory Wolski (1-3, Double, 1R). On the mound, Mateo Ramirez (4K, 4R, 3BB), Cory Wolski, (4K, 2R, 0BB) and Mac Reynolds (2K, 2R, 3BB) led the pitching attack for Travel White.

Best of luck to both of our U10 travel teams as they now begin their inter-town summer games through July. The Dirty Dogs and WH Travel White will play one more time to close the season on August 1st back at UCONN. See you then!
