Make no bones about it. This one was all about pitching. With what was arguably Manchester's best team, the Dirty Dogs came to play on the mound, giving up only 2 runs and keeping Manchester bats as silent as one of our kids in a timeout.
Shamus Biggs (4.0IP, 6K's, 1H, 4BB, 1ER) was all business. Throwing only 60 pitches over 4 innings, Shamus bought the hammer down on Manchester. After a slightly rough 1st, Shamus settled in, facing only 11 batters over the next 3 innings. One of the best pitching performances for the Dogs this summer, Shamus obtained an instant starting role with his stellar outing. In relief, both Paul Van Doren (1.0IP, 1K, 1BB, 0H, 0ER) and Spencer Altman (1.0IP, 2K, 2H, 2BB, 1R) closed the door on Manchester. Not letting them get it close in the final two of regulation.
At bat, Spencer Altman (2-2, HR, 2RBI) continued his power-hitting ways with a 2R inside-the-park home run to opposite field. Alex Haggerty (1-2, double, 2RBI), smashed a screamer to the yellow fence marker at the UCONN Major Field, just barely missing a home run. Alex had to "settle" for a 2R double. Nice shot Alex!!! Other strong plate appearances came from Marcos Massa (1-1, 2R), Seth Meisler (1-2, 1RBI), Miles McCarthy (1-1, double, 1R) and Ryan Druckenmiller (1-2, 1RBI).
Congrats to the Dirty Dogs on winning their first 4 games!
