Fair Ball!
In a well balanced pitching attack, the A's held off a late game comeback by the Cardinals, pulling out the win...10-8.
At the plate, the bottom of the order again came up with the big hits in this one, swinging for the fences hard all game. Highlights in this game came from Tim Kyle (2-3, 1R), Chris Borg (2-3, 1R), Matteo Carrabba (1-3, 1R), Eryk Jones (1-2, 2R), Ronald Cabello (1-2, 1R), Jack Brockway, (2-4, 1R) and Owen Hyland (1-3, 2R).
Great plays in the field from the A's. With bases loaded in the bottom of the 3rd, Owen Hyland knocked down a come-backer at the mound and threw a strike to Ryan Druckenmiller catching at the plate to record the out. On the other end, with Hyland catching...he threw out a runner at third to a perfectly positioned Cabello who laid the tag. Druckenmiller also snared a rip down the first base line for an inning ending catch.
On the mound, Eryk Jones started the game going 1.1IP with 1K, giving up 3 tough earned runs. Jack Brockway provided superb relief going 2 full innings (2IP, 5K, 2R). Best pitching performance for Jack all season! Owen Hyland (2/3IP, 1K, 3R) and Matt Keller (1IP, 1K, 0R) provided strong middle-relief and kept the Cards at bay, never giving up the lead through 5. Both were throwing very consistent strikes. At 10-8 in the bottom of the 6th after the Cards scored 3 in the 5th and were on the comeback, Ryan Druckenmiller (1IP, 3K, 0R) took the hill and needed only 14 pitches to strike out the side in blistering fashion, close the game and seal a big win for the A's, taking them to 5-1 on the season.
For the Cards, big hits came from Sam Levine, Patrick Keith, Cole Berko and Mason Stabile. The Cards pounded some DEEP balls and were swinging heavy timber all game. On the mound, consistent pitching came from Bobby Gerity (starter), Patrick Keith (in his first appearance this season) and the uber-solid Jack Brennan in relief who played an all around great came in front of and behind the plate.
