Fair Ball!
The Phillies advance to the AAA championship game Sunday by virtue of a thrilling 15-14 victory over the Cardinals. Early in the game, Phillies pitchers could not find the plate and struggled in the rainy conditions. Meanwhile the Cardinals behind the pitching of Sam Levine and Jack Brennan were seemingly on cruise control with a 14-7 lead heading to the botttom of the fifth. The Phillies scratched out 2 runs in their bottom half to cut the Cards lead to 14-9. Cairo McCrory, who pitched brilliantly in relief for the Phils, held the Birds in check in the sixth setting the table for the drama to begin. Anthony Violante, Alec Rodman, AJ Guevara, Declan Kiley and Jack Tousignant lead off the 6th inning with consecutive walks to cut the score to 14-10. Dan Hussey hit a sharp grounder to short, the throw at the plate was slightly late and the Cards lead was reduced to 14-12. Joe Hussey hit into a fielder's choice scoring Kiley to make the score 14-13 Cards. With two outs and enormous pressure, Nic Santos worked a walk to again load the bases. Enter Tom Dowd for the Phillies, two outs bases loaded down one. The Mighty Tom swung his bat and delivered a crisp line drive to center scoring Tousignant and Hussey for the incredible 15-14 victory. For the Cardinals, Shamus Biggs and Mason Stabile were very solid in the field and at the plate.
