In a very competitive opening game in the District 7 eleven year old tournament the Glastonbury Americans defeated West Hartford 5-0 at UCONN on Friday evening. Glastonbury, the defending District 7 ten year old champions and state semifinalist, were led by their star pitcher Ian Halpin(6IP, 2H, 7K,BB) who went the distance throwing a two hit shutout. The West Hartford elevens did put the ball in play hard on a number of occasions but the Glastonbury fielders were up to the challenge in support of Halpin. On the hitting side Glastonbury was led by Aidan Scott(2-3,2B,RBI) and Devon Bridgelall(1-3,2RBI's).
West Hartford also received strong pitching from their duo of Charlie Lage(1.2IP,2H,R,K) and Lucas Busch(3.1IP,7H,4R) who kept the high scoring Americans attack off balance for good a part of the game. Their was also some very good fielding plays in support of Lage and Busch turned in by Thomas Zinzarella, Tyrek Robinson, Sam Porcello, Connor Swanton, Eli Freilich, Jake LaRosa and Kevin Puleo . On the hitting side the elevens were led by Busch(1-3) and Robinson(1-2). As a team they battled Halpin with some good swings but just could not get on top of his very good fast ball and pin point control.
The West Hartford Elevens get back into action on Monday night at 6:00PM against Hartford's Rago Coco team right down the street in Elizabeth Park. Come out and enjoy the end to your holiday weekend by taking in some great baseball and supporting our eleven year old all-stars.
