West Hartford played Ellington close this evening in a 10-9 finish with Ellington taking the lead in their last at bat. The game finished in 5 innings. West Hartford could not retake the lead in the top of the 5th. WH had the lead from the get go led by pitchers Luke Gfeller and Chris Maglio who pitched 2 innings a piece. West Hartford White won their first summer ball game tonight, 14-12, against Wethersfield (grey). WH made some great plays in the field tonight starting with Anthony Carabello in the 4th inning throwing a runner out at home from left field. Wethersfield attempted to turn third base and Anthony threw a bullet to Spencer Martindale at home who made an solid pro tag on the runner to end the inning. Saturday, July 9 – West Hartford White lost a nail biter in the bottom of the 6th inning to Manchester (A). Manchester struck early with 4 runs in the 1st inning. But WH held them to 1 run over the next 4 innings. Emmett Coco came in relief striking out 5 batters in two innings giving up only 2 hits; another impressive showing on the mound. Thursday, July 7 – The West Hartford U10 White team made a come-back in the bottom of the 5th inning (5 innings played) to tie the Ellington B team, 12-12. WH gave up 4 runs early in the 1st inning but held Ellington to 3 runs over the next 3 innings. Emmett Coco had his debut with the WH U10 throwing two strong innings. The U10 Red Raiders began their Tournament play with a nail biter win. Defense was the name of the game against a hard hitting Burlington Team. Burlington jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, but the Raiders scored once in the 3rd as Sam Harrington walked, and stole the next three bases making it 2-1. The Red Raiders win opener on road, defeating Manchester A 9-7 in 4 inning. A late start and darkness caused the game to go only 4, but that didn't stop the Raiders from focusing on their mission. The West Hartford Wahoos U11 team shut out Hartford Rago/Peters 14-0 to kick off their district play. Father's Day and Baseball: always a good combination. The Minor's Div. Royals and Angels entertained the fans from opening pitch to last. For the Royals, Jackson Grady led the offense doubling in the first and later scored two runs. Patrick Sullivan had two hits (one a double) and Will Murkette and Mason Dupont both added base hits. On Fathers Day it was a beautiful day for baseball and Lucas Busch and his golden arm came to pitch. Busch dominated the Angels who during the season were arguably the best hitting team in WHLL. Busch kept them off balance the whole game as one player remarked to Lucas’ dad during the game “I can’t hit that”. The Braves and A's matched up in a semi-final gem battling for a birth to the Championship. It promised to be a pitchers duel with Braves ace James Eden squaring off with A's ace Eli Freilich and catchers Charlie Lage and Lucas Busch behind the plate. The Phillies advance to the AAA championship game Sunday by virtue of a thrilling 15-14 victory over the Cardinals. Early in the game, Phillies pitchers could not find the plate and struggled in the rainy conditions. The TotalVision Eyecare Center A's and the Murtha Cullina Marlins hooked up in just a great quarter-final round playoff game at UConn with the A's coming away with a 6-5 walk off victory. With the win the A's will move onto the semi-finals Wednesday night at UConn to take on the Braves.
