What competitive baseball! The Marlins and Orioles squared off in a mid-week, see-saw, bird versus fish battle sponsored by area non-profits.
The O's flew ahead in the first with 2 runners plated including an RBI single by Chase Meyers. The Marlins and the Braves, sporting their Mother's Day pink socks, gave a much appreciated gift to all the moms: a fast-paced pitchers' duel.
Marlins starting pitcher, Spencer Altman, was en fuego for 5, striking out 12 and allowing no runs. Lefty Brave, Matteo Ramirez-Webster (4 1/3 IP, 7 K's) responded in kind, maintaining a scoreless game through 3. The Marlins were hungry and hittin' hard! Leading the Fish with a remarkable performance in front of his visiting grandpa, was Jeffrey LaRosa (5 hits), who hit for the cycle with a grand slam. The Marlins proved a tough catch, evading the pillaging Pizza Pie Pirates 5-3. Gritty hits throughout the line-up were had by Zach Ellovich (2H), Danny Dashefsky (2H), Elliot Duprey, Patrick Keith, Josh DePaolis, Spencer Altman and Jack Brennan. Helping on hill were, Big Fish Spencer Altman (2 IP, 4 K's), a reliable Nate Skuba (2 IP, 3 K's) and hurler Jeffrey LaRosa (2 IP, 6 K's). WHLL's primary fields are located at our WHLL Baseball Complex at Trout Brook Dr. and Asylum Ave. All field dimensions are regulation 200' from home plate to outfield fence.
